New Las Vegas hotels are among the coming attractions in Las Vegas, which has seen record growth in visitor spending, surpassing even the highs of 2019. 

A recently release report from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reveal total economic output relate to visitor spending reach a record $79.3 billion in 2022, a 24.7 percent increase from the previous record set in 2019. The annual Economic Impact of Southern Nevada’s Tourism Industry report outlines economic impacts associates with the region’s tourism industry and convention travel, including visitor spending on rooms, dining, shopping, sports, local transportation and other activities and amenities.

New Las Vegas hotels

Las Vegas, as a tourist destination, has experience dramatic growth in recent years with the addition of new resort properties, expands convention and meeting space, professional sports teams, and new venues such as Allegiant Stadium. Following the disproportionate impacts suffer by tourist destinations like Las Vegas during the pandemic, Las Vegas demonstrate a strong rebound as a favorite location for pent-up travel demand. Visitor spending in 2022 hit an all-time high of $44.9 billion, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Total spending by visitors in 2022 outpaced the prior year by 24.4 percent and the 2019 total by 21.8 percent.

“These results are a powerful testament that what we do in concert with our resort partners to market this destination has an undeniable impact on our community,” said Steve Hill, CEO and president of the LVCVA. “We’re proud of this city and this industry and know that the upcoming offerings in the destination will add to that success.”

Las Vegas Numbers at-a-Glance

The total economic output relate to visitor spending in 2022 (including direct, indirect and induced impacts) reach an all-time high of $79.3 billion, equivalent to about half of the region’s gross economic output.

Despite 2022’s 38.8 million visitation tally falling 3.7 million visitors short of the 2019 visitation total, overall spending increase dramatically due to a 33.4 percent rise in per-trip visitor spending compare with 2019.

Per-trip visitor spending climbes to an all-time high of $1,156 in 2022, 3.3 percent higher than 2021.

New Las Vegas Hotels and Attractions to Note

While not a number on the new Las Vegas hotels line-up, the venerable Mirage is about to become a new brand of hotel: The Hard Rock. The Hard Rock’s purchase The Mirage in December and will overhauling the circa-1989 property with all the noise and buzz the brand brings. News reports note Hard Rock International intends to replace The Mirage’s outside volcano attraction with a hotel tower style like a guitar. In order to modernize the facility and increase its gaming floor, convention space, and theater, the new owners also intend to replace the current hotel. The site will continue to be use as The Mirage until the end of 2023, when Hard Rock anticipates the renovations to be finish.

In other acquisitions, the Tropicana Las Vegas has been purchase by Bally’s Corporation — not to confuse with Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, which recently changes its name to Horseshoe Las Vegas. The purchase may bring a new era to the Tropicana (also not of the new Las Vegas hotels, it opened its doors in the Rat Pack heydays of 1957) as now a Western flagship establishment. 

Under Construction 

Dream Las Vegas: The resort near the Harry Reid International Airport will have food and entertainment options, 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and a 20,000 square foot casino. The 531-room casino resort’s construction start in July and is anticipate to be finish by the end of 2024, although recent financing issues have put a pause in the plans.

Station Casinos, as part of the Hard Rock portfolio, intends to launch one of its six new Las Vegas hotels projects: the Durango Casino & Resort, by 2030. The first venture, the Durango Casino & Resort, will debut in the fall of 2023 and is locate close to the 215 Beltway. The new Las Vegas hotel will contain more than 200 rooms, an 83,000-square-foot gaming floor, four specialty restaurants, and a selection of bars and lounges, according to the property’s website. Additionally, it will contain 40 electric vehicle charging stations, a resort-style pool, and 20,000 square feet of conference and meeting space.

The Fontainebleau Las Vegas will be among the most prominent development projects in 2023. Years have pass since the project starts. This new entrant to the new Las Vegas hotels roster will open towards the end of 2023 after facing numerous challenges, such as a pandemic and various management changes. The hotel will have 3,700 rooms, a 3,300-seat theater, 27 dining options, and a ballroom measuring 105,000 square feet.


New Las Vegas Attractions in the Works

MSG Sphere: The building process for the MSG Sphere venue is nearing completion. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the project is anticipate to be complete by the end of 2023. The 17,500-seat facility will locate east of The Venetian and Palazzo when it is built, and it will 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide at its widest point. 

The facility will eventually contain displays the size of three football fields and 580,000 square feet of programmable LED lighting. With more than 160,000 speakers, it will also be the largest beam-forming audio system in the world, providing guests with a singular acoustic experience. Owner of the entertainment venue and developer of comparable venues around the world is Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp.

Retail & Entertainment District: Oak View Group has purchase 25 acres in Las Vegas close to the junction of two important freeways, I-15 and I-215. The group plans to erect an arena and entertainment complex nearby. A 850,000 square foot arena, a casino, a hotel, and an extra entertainment venue called an amphitheater are all part of the proposals. Building will start in 2023, but no completion date has been given.

Las Vegas Punk Rock Museum

Although there are many oddball museums in Las Vegas, the Punk Rock Museum is one of the year’s most eagerly awaited launches. The new museum opens last month with exhibits that include show flyers, pictures, and apparel from well-known punk rockers. Instruments donate by favorite bands are available for use by visitors. Guided tours given by punk rock icons may be the highlight of the visit. A guide tour of the museum costs $100, but general entry tickets are $30.


The Museum of Illusions, Las Vegas

The Museum of Illusions is another brand-new Las Vegas museum that has join the strip. This will the museum chain’s largest location thus far, covering more than 15,000 square feet and having locations in over 30 cities worldwide.  Young and elderly visitors can take part in immersive illusions, perspective-shifting rooms, and art pieces.  A more precise opening date has not yet been disclose, however it was originally schedule to debut in November 2022.


Atomic Golf in Las Vegas

Another landmark of the Las Vegas skyline is the STRAT.  It houses the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States, formerly known as the “Stratosphere.” A hotel, casino, SkyPod, a number of dining options, a resort-style pool, a rollercoaster, and—soon—the Atomic Golf Range are all part of the complex, which is expect to open this year. 


Game of Thrones, Las Vegas Style

Game of Thrones: Dragons was announce with pomp and circumstance by the LVCVA last December but as yet does not have a home or a place to roam. Little has been releases about this plan HBO-blockbuster attraction, leaving fans to guess where the experience will be or what it will be like. It is implied that this is not a theatrical production but rather another deeply immersive CGI-laden event allowing visitors “step inside the world of Westeros.” Stay tuned!
